We are excited to be offering this new series of plant medicine events at Ivywood. This series of 4 full days are spaced out over our seasons. During these days we will be spending time in the woodland with the trees and plants there and also out in the apothecary garden and other spaces of Ivywood. We will be engaging in hands on harvesting of roots, tree barks, whole plants, berries, mushrooms or lichen to create medicines together in circle.
To venture into the woodland here is to feel a deeper sense of the magical energy that Ivywood holds. This is an invitation to connect in with the abundance of wild medicine that the land here so graciously offers us for healing.
We will embark on conscious harvesting with each of the native trees and plants as we work with them. We then will engage in our medicine making in circle back in our beautiful apothecary space or in the woodland itself.
These events are suitable for both herb lovers and qualified herbalists wishing to deepen their connection with the medicine of our ancestry and work practically with these wild plants by creating medicine making in circle. These events offer us the opportunity to create new stories of plant and land connection, and traditional skills for our lineage.
We will cover the ins and outs of creating a variety rich and vibrant medicines with freshly harvested native medicinal plants, roots, barks, berries, fungi and lichen from Ivywood.
You will be taking home your 2 freshly harvested medicines created in community from each day.
An Fhómhair ~ Autumn ~ Usnea & Coriolus Medicine – The Powerhouses of Irish Woodland Lichen & Mushrooms
Usnea is one of our most interesting and alluring lichen’s is also a powerhouse of a wild medicine. This time of year it calls to be worked with for protection and healing when the turning of the year is upon us. We will collectively gather this medicine from trees in Ivywood. In circle we will create either an oil, tincture or glycerite that can be utilised for internal or external conditions. This is a medicine with multiple actions which is well worth familiarising yourself with!
Coriolus, Turkey Tail, Erinabal Turcaí is another native woodland medicine that is incredibly important for the healing required in these times. We will be up along the river in Ivywood heading further into the woodland to seek out this fungi. We’ll begin our a simple dual extraction in the woodland and then create the second part back at the apothecary in our circle.
Please note: these events are partially outdoors in all weather in a woodland terrain.
This course includes a delicious hearty vegan lunch and teas/coffees and snacks on breaks.
Our medicinal plant nursery is open with plants to purchase during courses ran between May & October at Ivywood.
Please note this course is for over 16's. Children may NOT accompany course attendees.
