Tanacetum parthenium plant at Ivywood nursery

Tanacetum parthenium (Feverfew) 9 cm Pot

€ 4.00
A hardy, aromatic perennial with bright white daisy flowers and finely cut foliage, thriving in Irish conditions. Traditionally used for headaches and liver-related complaints.
Description

Growth habit & appearance: Tanacetum parthenium forms upright, bushy clumps of fresh green, highly aromatic leaves with a delicately divided texture typical of the Asteraceae. Throughout summer it produces abundant clusters of small, white daisies with vivid yellow centres, creating a clean, attractive display. The flowers are rich in nectar and support a wide range of pollinating insects, offering strong ecological benefits in both cottage gardens and herbal plantings.

Growing conditions: A fully hardy perennial well suited to Irish growing conditions, Feverfew thrives in full sun and free-draining soil. It establishes quickly and self-seeds lightly, allowing it to naturalise in garden borders without becoming dominant. Its resilience makes it reliable across varied Irish climates.

Traditional & herbal uses: Traditionally used for headaches and migraines, as well as various liver-related disorders, Feverfew has a long history in European herbalism. Its flowers provide consistent forage for bees, hoverflies, and other beneficial insects, strengthening ecological diversity during the mid-summer flowering period.

Maintenance & harvesting: Maintenance is simple: keep plants in a sunny, well-drained position, deadhead regularly to extend flowering, and cut back after the season to encourage fresh basal growth. Seed can be saved once flower heads dry, and aerial parts are harvested at full bloom.
