Myconturi Cordyceps Powder 250g

Cistus incanus (Tauric Rock rose) 9 cm pot

€ 6.00
An aromatic Mediterranean shrub with soft grey foliage and delicate crinkled pink blooms, long valued in traditional European herbal use and hardy in sheltered Irish gardens.
Description

Growth habit & appearance: Cistus incanus forms a rounded, sun-loving shrub with silvery, felted leaves that release a warm resinous aroma in heat. The soft grey foliage provides a striking contrast to its papery, rose-pink flowers, each bloom lasting only a day but produced in generous succession. The crinkled, tissue-like petals give the plant its unmistakable rock-rose character, while the dense branching makes for a compact, ornamental mound.

Growing conditions: Although native to the Mediterranean and southern European regions, this species is reasonably hardy in Ireland when given full sun and excellent drainage. It thrives in poor, gritty, or sandy soils and resents heavy, waterlogged ground. In colder inland areas, protection from severe winter frost is advisable, particularly for young plants; coastal sites and south-facing slopes offer the most reliable performance.

Traditional & herbal uses: Rock rose has a long-standing history in European folk practice, particularly for supporting the body during coughs, colds, fevers, and digestive discomfort. It has also been referenced traditionally in relation to mouth ulcers and as a general tonifying aromatic. Modern folk interest often includes mention of Lyme-associated uses, reflecting its reputation in various herbal traditions.

Maintenance & harvesting: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact dome, but never cut back into old, hard wood. Water sparingly—this shrub is adapted to dry, sun-baked soils and benefits from a lean regime. Harvest mature leaves during warm weather when resin levels are highest. In harsh winters, provide temporary protection such as a fleece cover or move container-grown plants to a sheltered location.
